Frequently Asked Questions

air conditioning

Should air conditioning units be cleaned? YES - Dirt build up on the heat exchange coils will dramatically reduce the cooling ability of the unit - dirt will act like an insulating blanket. Dirt on the evaporator (indoor coil) can also lead to smells and poor indoor air quality.

How often should an ac unit be cleaned? - While the units are under warranty the manufacturer will specify the frequency of cleaning. However, it is advisable to have both the indoor units and the outdoor units cleaned every 12 months as a minimum.

Can we clean the ac units ourselves? - Not really.

Why does the air conditioning unit smell? - This is due to a dirty evaporator coil and condensate tray - bacteria and fungi have built up in the tray and on the coil. The unit needs cleaning and treating with a disinfectant product. There are also preventative treatments available to keep the units microbe free for a number of months.

Can I get a spare remote control? - YES. Any spare parts for your ac units can be ordered directly from CBS.

Is it possible to hide the outdoor units from view? - YES. Small shrubs can be planted in front of the condenser to shield it. They should not be close enough to block the air flow.
